Brrr... Cold isn't it? How nice is it to enjoy a delicious, warm mulled wine with your family in the cold months? But not just any mulled wine, we are talking about a delicious, homemade mulled wine, rich in spices. And we have another great idea to give your mulled wine a unique twist that your guests will certainly enjoy.
Do you want to heat up something other than ready-made mulled wine? We will help you make a delicious mulled wine for the cold days. Experiment with the vacuum process and intensify the flavors. Add some extra ingredients to create that delicious sweet and spicy taste. Do you like sweets? Add some extra sugar and vanilla. Or do you long for more spice and spiciness? Add an extra clove or cinnamon stick. Or experiment by adding tea or spices such as cardamom, allspice or star anise, or other citrus varieties such as yuzu for a luxurious variant. Thanks to the vacuum process, the flavors emerge faster and even better.
Below is a list of supplies and ingredients:
If you prefer to make alcohol-free mulled wine, it is best to replace the red wine with a combination of cranberry & grape juice. Alcohol-free wine is of course also an option.
1. Cut the orange in half, make slices of the lemon and cut the vanilla pod in half lengthwise;
2. Add the vanilla pod, cinnamon stick, cloves and wine to the pan and heat gently. Note: make sure the wine does not boil!;
3. Squeeze the orange and add the juice together with the lemon to the mixture. The more orange you add, the sweeter the mulled wine becomes. Add more lemon for a more sour taste;
4. Leave on the heat for about 15 minutes and add some sugar if necessary to adjust the sweetness to your taste;
5. While the mixture is on the stove, use the hole punch to make a hole in the lid of the jars. Of course, make sure the jar is sterile and clean. Do you want to know how to remove labels from the jars? You can read this here on the Nanostopper site. Then carefully pour the mixture into the jars and vacuum seal them for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the flavors to develop;
6. Remove the lids from the jars and your homemade mulled wine is ready to enjoy. Cheers!
Normally red wine is used for mulled wine, preferably a wine with a distinct taste. Because you add a lot of extra ingredients, the taste of the wine will quickly fade into the background. So there is no need to buy an expensive or refined bottle of wine. Just choose a strong wine that you like. Would you like to experiment next to the vacuum process? Then replace the red wine with white wine. In that case, choose a slightly sweeter white wine, such as a Chenin Blanc, Riesling or Moscato. We are curious about your creations!
With the Nanostopper you can turn ordinary pots into the ideal storage solution. Stop throwing away used jars and turn them into vacuum containers! Infuse flavors, marinate under vacuum, store longer and enjoy your creations up to 5 times longer!
During our demos at Hanos, a large horeca retailer, Hanos Apeldoorn came up with a great idea to make a Mulled Wine cocktail. With the Airtender Aerator you can froth cocktails extremely well. Add liquid egg white to the not too warm mulled wine and use the Airtender Aerator to create a perfect foam layer in the glass of mulled wine. Of course in a beautiful glass with a nice garnish, for example a cinnamon stick.
