Overnight Oats & Strawberries

Why oatmeal?

There are good reasons why oatmeal has (re)gained so much popularity over recent years. It's not only a fibre-rich and healthy way to start the day, oatmeal also offers endless variation. Every topping will create a different flavor!

Then why "Overnight"? In fact, there isn't much difference between the traditional cooked oatmeal and the cold version, except for the convenience. You don't have to get out your cookware in the morning (and watch it like a hawk), no extra dishwashing to do, no loss of precious time in the morning. Just mix the oatmeal flakes and milk together the night before and let it all soak in.

But what if you're not the best at planning ahead - or just not sure if you'll feel like having oatmeal the next day? Or... if you just want to enjoy a nice creamy bowl for lunch or as a snack? No problem: vacuum gives you the opportunity to enjoy within 10 minutes.

Preparation

Take any empty candy jar or mason jar and use the Nanostopper® Lid Punch to make a hole in the lid. For your convenience, we have prepared the instruction video below.

Basic recipe (1 person)

Ingredients

  • 75 gr (2/3 Cup) Oatmeal flakes

  • 150-200 ml (5-6.5) oz Milk

  • Your favorite toppings, e.g. strawberries, blueberries, etc.

The ratio of oatmeal to milk is a matter of personal taste. If you prefer your oats a bit thicker, then add a little more oatmeal or less milk.

Have a sweet tooth? Then you might want to add a dash of Maple Syrup.

Preparation

  1. Mix the milk and oatmeal together in the jar. Close the jar and place the Nanostopper® in the lid. Now use your vacuum pump to extract the air out of the jar. You will see that the content slowly expands and air bubbles will appear. What you're seeing is the vacuum doing its job and making the oats quickly absorb the milk!
  2. Now wait for 5-10 minutes before you open the jar again. In the meantime you can take a shower, get your things together or get dressed.
  3. Finally, you add the toppings of your choice and... enjoy!
TIP: Would you like some hot oatmeal instead? Then you can heat up the opened jar (after the vacuum process) in the microwave, for a minute or two.
